Three women were injured in a knife attack in Paris on Monday morning, prompting a swift police response and the arrest of a suspect at the scene.
The assault took place around 11:30 a.m. in the Porte de Clichy area in the northwest of the French capital, a busy district known for its offices and transport links, according to Euro News. According to authorities, the attacker used two kitchen knives during the incident.
The victims, aged 19, 24, and 36, were rushed to hospital. Two of the women suffered serious injuries, with one stabbed in the lower back and another in the abdomen. Officials said their lives are not in immediate danger. Local media reports indicate that one of the victims may be pregnant, though this has not been officially confirmed.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the suspect was detained by an off-duty police officer who intervened quickly to stop the attack. He described the officer’s actions as “courageous” and credited the rapid response with preventing further harm.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the suspect. Nunez noted that the man made what he described as “incoherent” statements at the time of his arrest. However, officials cautioned against drawing early conclusions about the attacker’s motives.
An investigation is now underway as police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and determine whether the victims were targeted or randomly chosen.
The incident has once again raised concerns about public safety in major European cities, even as authorities stress that such acts remain rare.
