Two teenagers were caught shortly after a late night break-in at a hair salon in Vienna, Austria, on Wednesday. A third suspect remains at large but has been identified by investigators.
The incident took place at around 10:30 p.m. on Lerchenfelder Straße in Vienna’s 8th district. According to police, three teenagers smashed the salon’s glass entrance door and entered the premises. They reportedly took a wallet, removed the cash inside and threw the empty wallet onto the floor before fleeing towards the Gürtel.
A witness saw the break-in and immediately alerted the police. Officers launched a rapid search of the area and soon stopped two of the suspects near Neustiftgasse.
The witness later identified both teenagers as the alleged perpetrators. During a search, police found the stolen cash in their possession.
One of the suspects is a 14 year old Austrian citizen. He was provisionally arrested. The second suspect is 13 years old, although his nationality has not yet been established. After police procedures were completed, he was handed over to a legal guardian.
The third suspect was not found during the search. However, investigators know his identity. Police say he is also 14 years old and a Serbian citizen. The investigation into his alleged involvement is continuing.
As all three suspects are minors, further steps will be taken under Austria’s juvenile justice regulations. The allegations remain subject to the ongoing investigation.
