Vienna Airport in Austria became the scene of a major drug bust when border police stopped a young woman carrying a suitcase filled with illegal drugs. The incident took place on January 18 during routine security checks at the airport.
Officers from the Schwechat City Police Command were carrying out baggage inspections using X-ray machines when they noticed suspicious images in the luggage of a 21-year-old woman from Greece. A closer inspection revealed a carefully planned smuggling attempt.
Inside two suitcases, police discovered 56 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis. Each package weighed about 500 grams, bringing the total amount of seized drugs to 28 kilograms. The cannabis was immediately confiscated by the border police.
The woman was arrested on the spot and taken in for questioning. However, during her interrogation, she refused to give any statement or explain how she came into possession of the drugs. Following orders from the public prosecutor’s office in Korneuburg, she was transferred to the appropriate detention facility.
Authorities described the operation as a successful strike against international drug trafficking. The seizure highlights the importance of strict security checks at Austria’s main international airport and the ongoing efforts of Vienna’s border police to protect the country from organized crime.
Investigations into the case are still ongoing, and officials believe the drugs were intended for further distribution within Europe.
