Saudi Arabia Warns of Rising Regional Tensions, Reaffirms Support for Palestinian State
Saudi Arabia has warned that the situation in the Middle East is becoming increasingly unstable, calling for urgent action to prevent further escalation. Speaking at the United Nations, the Kingdom’s permanent representative, Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasel, expressed deep concern over the growing violence and its impact on civilians, according to Arab News.
Al-Wasel strongly condemned ongoing Israeli military actions in Palestine and Lebanon, describing them as a threat to regional peace. He also criticized recent Iranian attacks on civilian facilities, highlighting the serious human and material losses caused by such actions. His remarks reflected Saudi Arabia’s broader concern about rising tensions involving multiple parties in the region.
The Kingdom reaffirmed its firm stance against any attempts to change the historical and legal status of Jerusalem, especially its Islamic holy sites. Saudi officials stressed that preserving the city’s identity is essential for maintaining stability and respecting international agreements.
In addition, Saudi Arabia denounced Israeli settlement expansion, calling it illegal under international law and a major obstacle to peace efforts. According to the Kingdom, such activities weaken the chances of achieving a long-term solution to the conflict.
Saudi Arabia emphasized that true peace can only be reached through concrete steps. These include an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, prevention of forced displacement, and a full withdrawal from Gaza. Most importantly, the Kingdom reiterated its support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
The statement at the United Nations highlights Saudi Arabia’s continued diplomatic push for stability and its call for the international community to take stronger action in addressing the ongoing crisis.
