Vienna International Airport is pulling ahead of its European rivals, ranking among the continent’s top airports and outperforming major hubs like Frankfurt and Berlin.
As the peak travel season begins, Austria’s largest airport has reason to celebrate. In a new European ranking, Vienna-Schwechat secured 13th place, placing it firmly among the top-performing airports for passenger satisfaction, according to Heute.
The ranking, compiled by holiday rental platform Holidu, analyzed Google Maps reviews of the 85 busiest airports across Europe. Vienna earned an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars, based on more than 50,000 reviews.
What stands out is how strongly Vienna compares to larger and more globally known airports. Frankfurt ranked 46th, Amsterdam 39th, Paris Charles de Gaulle 56th, and Berlin’s BER lagged far behind at 79th place. Munich also trailed Vienna, landing at 31st. Among German-speaking airports, only Zurich performed better, taking fifth place.
Travelers consistently praise Vienna Airport for its efficient public transport connections, clear terminal layout, and relatively quick security checks. These practical advantages appear to play a key role in its strong performance.
At the top of the list, Istanbul, Porto, and Helsinki maintained their leading positions for the third year in a row, each scoring 4.4 stars.
Elsewhere, Dublin climbed eight spots to 22nd place, while Palma de Mallorca slipped to 21st. Barcelona and Brussels also saw notable declines.
At the bottom of the ranking, Heraklion Airport in Crete ranked last for the fifth consecutive year, with travelers citing overcrowding, long waits, limited seating, and poor air conditioning.
