Rising Border Tensions: Missile Strikes and Military Operations Intensify Along Pak-Afghan Frontier
Tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have sharply escalated, with reports of heavy missile strikes and ongoing military operations raising fears among civilians on both sides, according to TOLOnews.
Residents of Afghanistan’s Kunar province say that more than 200 missiles were fired into their areas within a single day. According to local accounts, the strikes hit parts of Sarkano and Khas Kunar districts, damaging homes and forcing families to flee. Villagers described scenes of fear and destruction, with many now living in temporary shelters.
One resident, Ebadullah, said a missile struck his home in the evening, injuring his daughter and shattering windows. Another resident, Mohammad Aslam, reported widespread destruction of houses and loss of livestock, leaving families struggling to survive. Many locals claim that civilian areas were directly targeted, disrupting daily life, education, and worship.
Local officials confirmed casualties, stating that at least three people were killed and 12 others injured in the recent attacks, most of them women, children, and elderly individuals. Earlier strikes in the week reportedly caused additional deaths and dozens of injuries, adding to the growing humanitarian concern in the region.
Meanwhile, Pakistani security sources presented a different perspective, stating that military operations in the Chaman sector of Balochistan were carried out in response to what they described as unprovoked aggression from Afghan Taliban forces and militants linked to TTP. These operations, part of “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq,” reportedly targeted and destroyed several Taliban posts and vehicles with precision.
According to officials, the actions forced opposing fighters to retreat and were necessary to protect Pakistan’s territorial integrity. The military also confirmed similar operations in recent days, including the destruction of gun positions after cross-border firing incidents that injured civilians.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to take action against militant groups operating from their territory, particularly those associated with TTP. However, officials say these concerns have not been adequately addressed.
As both sides continue to exchange accusations, the situation along the border remains tense. For civilians caught in the middle, the conflict has brought loss, displacement, and uncertainty, highlighting the urgent need for dialogue and de-escalation.
