TEHRAN, Sept 2 (Tasnim): Iran has strongly condemned a US strike that hit a wedding gathering in the southern county of Sirik, saying the attack killed and wounded dozens of civilians, including women and children.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei described the incident as another example of what he called Washington’s “moral collapse”. In a post on X, he said the strike hit a residential home in Kuhestak, where families had gathered to celebrate a wedding, as reported by Tasnim News Agency.
“The truth of the illegal US war against Iran was put on display last night in Sirik, where a wedding ceremony was bombed,” Baqaei wrote. He accused the United States of trying to hide its military failure through what he called false images and AI-generated videos portraying American officials as heroic and morally superior.
Iranian authorities reported that more than 70 people were killed or injured in the attack. The Iranian Red Crescent gave a preliminary figure of at least four deaths and about 67 injuries, warning that the number could rise because several wounded people were in critical condition.
The United States has said its forces do not target civilians. US Central Command said it was aware of reports about the incident and claimed that American operations were directed at military targets, including sites linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Iranian Red Crescent has called for an independent investigation, saying the attack could raise serious questions under international humanitarian law if the building was purely civilian and no lawful military target was present.
Baqaei urged the international community not to remain silent. Quoting American writer Tim O’Brien, he wrote: “A true war story is never moral… if a story seems moral, do not believe it.”
