India Thwarts Major Pakistani Attacks, Tensions Rise Along the Border

International

JAMMU – Tensions have reached a boiling point along the India-Pakistan border after a series of bold attacks launched by Pakistan were successfully intercepted by Indian forces. Late in the evening, just before 9 p.m., loud explosions echoed across Jammu, followed by sirens and a complete blackout. Mobile networks went down, and fear spread quickly among residents, reported by NDTV.

Pakistan attempted a massive strike on Indian military bases in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Punjab. The attack came just hours after Pakistan’s earlier failed bid to target 15 Indian cities. Indian forces swiftly activated air defense systems, lighting up the night sky with interceptors stopping incoming missiles and drones.

In Jammu and Kashmir’s RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, and Hiranagar — areas with dense military presence — eight missiles were shot down. Military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur were also targeted, but India’s defense ministry confirmed all threats were neutralized without casualties or damage.

In a daring move, Indian forces shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet that had taken off from Sargodha air base. Pakistani drones were intercepted in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and near Sir Creek in Gujarat. Punjab’s strategic city of Pathankot came under heavy artillery fire, adding to the gravity of the situation.

Blackouts have been declared across sensitive border areas including parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab (Chandigarh, Ferozepur, Mohali, Gurdaspur), Rajasthan, and Gujarat. An IPL cricket match in Dharamshala was cancelled, and the stadium evacuated.

Airports nationwide have heightened security, enforcing stricter checks, surveillance, and access control.

The Indian government emphasized that its response was precise and measured, and that it remains committed to peace — as long as Pakistan shows the same intent. Meanwhile, the U.S. has urged both countries to de-escalate and engage in dialogue to avoid further conflict.
