Teen crime shook the Austrian city of Klagenfurt in the summer of 2025, leaving behind damaged property, shaken businesses, and a growing sense of concern among residents, reported by Heute. Now, months later, police say they have identified those responsible and are beginning to piece together what happened.
Investigators uncovered the actions of two separate groups of teenagers. The first group, made up of five youths, carried out a series of vandalism attacks between June and October. Moving in different combinations, they targeted companies and sports facilities across the city. Fire extinguishers were discharged recklessly, advertising signs were smashed, and public spaces were left in disarray. The damage added up quickly, reaching tens of thousands of euros.
A second group, even younger, took things further. In December, four boys aged just 14 and 15 broke into a company property and stole a van that was not even approved for road use. To avoid detection, they attached a stolen license plate from another car. None of them had a driver’s license.
What followed was a dangerous ride through Klagenfurt’s streets. Witnesses later described reckless driving and drifting through the city center. During the spree, the boys broke open a container and stole fireworks. They then set off the pyrotechnics inside the moving van, turning their thrill-seeking into a serious hazard. The vehicle was eventually destroyed, and the financial damage once again reached into the tens of thousands. Police confirmed that three of the boys were already known to authorities, while the fourth has now been identified.
Authorities also arrested two adult suspects linked to a separate string of break-ins. The men, aged 35 and 37 and originally from Bosnia, are accused of targeting nine businesses, stealing coffee machines, and selling them abroad. One suspect has partially confessed, while the other remains on the run.
Police say these cases highlight how quickly reckless behavior can escalate, especially among young offenders, turning moments of excitement into lasting consequences for an entire community.
