Authorities investigate as suspect is killed and motive remains unclear

MONTREAL: A deadly shooting in the Canadian city of Montreal has left three people dead, including a police officer, a civilian, and the suspected attacker, authorities said on Monday, according to Al Jazeera News.

Police confirmed that the situation is still unfolding, with limited details available about how the violence began. In an earlier statement, officers said the suspect had been “neutralised” and warned that the operation was ongoing, urging residents to avoid the affected area.

Two police officers and one civilian were initially reported injured. Shortly afterward, Montreal police confirmed that one officer had died in the line of duty, marking a tragic loss for the force.

The incident took place in the Cote-des-Neiges district, where law enforcement had earlier issued an alert about an “armed and dangerous” suspect. Residents were advised to remain indoors as police moved to contain the situation.

Authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the attack, and it remains unclear whether more than one suspect may have been involved.

The area remains under heavy police presence as investigators work to piece together the events that led to the shooting. Officials are expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available.

The incident has shocked the local community, highlighting once again the risks faced by law enforcement officers and the sudden, unpredictable nature of such acts of violence.
