Pakistan and Austria have renewed their commitment to deepening a partnership that spans decades, with both nations eyeing new avenues of cooperation in trade, tourism, education, and climate action, according to APP.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker on Tuesday in New York, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting, described as cordial, underscored the shared desire to reinvigorate bilateral relations built on a history of goodwill and mutual respect.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s aspiration to broaden ties across all areas of common interest. He identified trade and investment, climate change collaboration, and academic exchange as sectors ripe for expansion. Tourism, he added, offers significant opportunities, with both countries possessing rich cultural heritage and natural beauty that could attract greater people-to-people contact.
The Austrian chancellor welcomed the prime minister’s proposals, expressing his government’s readiness to work closely with Islamabad in charting out new pathways of cooperation. Stocker stressed Austria’s appreciation of Pakistan’s role as a bridge between regions and its contributions to international forums, adding that Vienna sees value in deepening dialogue and economic ties.
Both leaders agreed to encourage official and business delegations to explore opportunities, particularly in tourism and education. The exchange of delegations, they noted, would help translate the goodwill between the two governments into tangible partnerships benefiting both societies.
The meeting reaffirmed the friendly spirit that has long characterized Pakistan–Austria relations, while signaling a joint resolve to adapt this friendship to contemporary challenges and opportunities on the global stage.
