Vienna, Austria — In a heartfelt celebration of legacy, learning, and democratic spirit, the Vienna Education Center at Praterstraße 25 commemorated its 100th anniversary this week—an event that resonated far beyond its historic walls.
Founded in 1925, the center has stood as a beacon of education, reflection, and social dialogue for the Viennese Social Democratic movement. For a century, it has served as both a sanctuary for thought and a springboard for action, shaping generations with its unwavering commitment to democratic values and civic responsibility.

“Education is the soul of democracy,” one speaker noted, echoing the evening’s core message. “And today, more than ever, we need spaces like this—modest, open, and reflective—to build consensus and strengthen trust in political engagement.”
The event featured a rich historical retrospective by Dr. Karin Moser, offering attendees a deep dive into the center’s storied past, while Vienna’s Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig delivered a powerful keynote that underscored the enduring significance of education in shaping an inclusive and participatory society.
Director Cappar Hajo of the Vienna Academy of Education, along with Martina Canori Buchhart and the organizing team, were praised for orchestrating a dignified and inspiring evening that paid homage to the past while looking firmly toward the future.
Among the many distinguished guests were the Pakistani Community Forum Austria (PCFA), Kashmir Kultur-Zentrum, You-are-welcome and Kurdisch Kultur Zentrum, whose representatives expressed their gratitude and admiration. “It was truly an honor to be part of such a meaningful celebration,” their statement read. “Tonight reminded us of the powerful legacy of social democracy, solidarity, and the transformative power of education.”
As the Vienna Education Center embarks on its second century, the spirit of inclusion, democratic engagement, and social design continues to light its path—an enduring testament to the power of learning to shape society for the better.
