Doha, Qatar — The U.S. Embassy in Qatar has issued an urgent advisory instructing American citizens to shelter in place amid rising regional tensions following reported U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, reported by Arab News. The alert comes as Iran’s military vowed “serious, unpredictable consequences” in response to what it called acts of aggression.
Qatar, just 120 miles across the Gulf from Iran, hosts Al-Udeid Air Base, the largest American military installation in the Middle East. The embassy’s Monday statement cited “an abundance of caution” in urging Americans to remain indoors and limit movement.
The warning triggered a cascade of similar advisories from allied Western nations. The British Foreign Office and the Canadian Embassy followed suit, urging their citizens in Qatar to shelter as a precautionary measure tied to the evolving U.S. security posture.
In neighboring Bahrain — home to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet — the American embassy announced a partial shift to remote work for its staff. Bahraini government employees were also instructed to work from home due to “regional circumstances.”
Despite the flurry of warnings, Qatari authorities sought to downplay fears. Foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari emphasized that the alerts “do not necessarily reflect the existence of specific or credible threats,” and reassured residents that the security situation remains stable. He added that Qatar is pursuing intensive diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions.
The advisories come just days after Israel’s June 13 strikes on Iranian targets, which have further inflamed hostilities between Tehran and Washington. On Sunday, the U.S. State Department issued a global advisory, urging Americans to exercise heightened caution amid the escalating crisis.
As the region braces for potential fallout, embassies and civilians alike remain on high alert — eyes trained across the Gulf, watching and waiting.
