UNITED NATIONS — The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees warned that life-saving aid for Gaza is sitting idle in warehouses as the blockade on deliveries enters its sixth month, reported by Dawn News.
Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), said the organization has been barred from delivering supplies to the besieged enclave for more than five months. Speaking to reporters, he noted that UNRWA facilities in Egypt and Jordan are “full with food, medicine and hygiene supplies” — enough to fill 6,000 trucks bound for Gaza.
“The needs are immense, the supplies are ready, and yet the doors remain closed,” Lazzarini said, adding that the agency stands alongside other humanitarian organizations in calling for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted access for aid.
He urged that aid distribution be managed under the UN’s established systems, including UNRWA, which has long been the primary channel for humanitarian assistance to Gaza’s population.
