Security forces on Saturday re-established contact with terrorists in the Dolgam area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, as the ongoing counter terror operation entered a critical phase. The joint operation, named Operation Trashi-I, is being conducted by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), according to Greater Kashmir News.
Officials said the contact was made in the early hours of January 31 following coordinated intelligence inputs from multiple agencies. Based on this information, troops moved in and established a cordon around the suspected hideout in the forested terrain. A search and combing operation is currently underway to locate and neutralize the militants.
This is the fourth instance in the past two weeks that security forces have established contact with the same group, indicating sustained efforts to track their movement. Authorities believe that three terrorists affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammad group are present in the area. Intermittent exchanges of fire have been reported, and additional reinforcements have been deployed to strengthen the cordon.
To prevent any misuse of communication services during the operation, mobile internet has been temporarily suspended within a six-kilometre radius covering Singhpora, Chingam, and Chatroo. Officials said the step was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure operational security.
Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma visited Kishtwar to review the counter-terror grid and assess the situation on the ground. He interacted with senior officers and reviewed the strategy being followed to bring the operation to a safe and swift conclusion.
Authorities have advised residents in nearby areas to remain indoors and cooperate with security personnel. While movement has been restricted in certain locations, officials said all necessary measures are being taken to minimize inconvenience to civilians and ensure their safety.
The situation continues to be closely monitored, and further updates are expected as the operation progresses.
