New Delhi, May 23: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has firmly rejected former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, reported by GK News. Speaking in the Netherlands, Jaishankar emphasized that all discussions with Pakistan are bilateral and not subject to third-party involvement.

“This is something that only India and Pakistan need to settle directly,” Jaishankar stated, reiterating India’s longstanding policy. He underscored that any talks with Pakistan must be “serious” and focused solely on ending cross-border terrorism.

His comments follow Trump’s assertion that the U.S. played a role in resolving what he called a “thousand-year conflict.” India has repeatedly maintained that the Kashmir issue must be resolved bilaterally.

Jaishankar also outlined the historical roots of the conflict, highlighting Pakistan’s longstanding use of terrorism as a tool of state policy, starting with its incursion into Kashmir post-Partition in 1947.

Tensions escalated further after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 people. India responded with Operation Sindoor, a precision military operation that neutralised over 100 militants from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen across Pakistan and AJK
