Iran’s New Security Chief: No Retreat on National Rights

TEHRAN: Iran’s newly appointed security chief has declared that the Islamic Republic will not back down from defending its national rights and interests, no matter the threats it faces. In a message released Tuesday, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, the new secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), thanked Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian for their trust in him.

Rezaei stressed that Iran’s decisions must be made from a stronger position than in the past, drawing on experience, field studies, bravery, and insight. “The goal is not only to leave behind this sensitive situation, but to pass this stage safer, more united, and more powerful,” he said.

On foreign policy, Rezaei outlined a strategy focused on strengthening deterrence, resisting pressure and coercion, and responding swiftly and decisively to any aggression. He pledged to safeguard national interests, make effective use of diplomacy, pursue strong engagement with the international community, and maintain readiness against potential threats.

Rezaei’s appointment comes amid heightened tensions in the region, including disputes over the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing confrontations with the United States and Israel. Analysts say his hardline background signals a blend of military preparedness and diplomatic engagement, with Iran insisting that negotiations cannot come at the expense of sovereignty or security.

The SNSC, established under Iran’s constitution, is responsible for setting defense and national security policies and coordinating responses to internal and external threats. Rezaei’s message underscores Tehran’s determination to emerge from current crises with greater cohesion and strength, even as it faces mounting international pressure, according to Mehr News Agency.
