A violent street fight in Vienna’s Brigittenau district has left three young men injured, adding to growing concerns about youth-related crime in the city, reported by Kurier.
The incident took place shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Saturday near Vorgartenstrasse. According to police, a 17 year old boy was stabbed in the thigh, while his two companions, aged 20 and 22, suffered broken bones and bruises.
Authorities detained six suspects aged between 16 and 18 soon after the attack. An 18-year-old Slovenian is believed to be the main suspect and is accused of carrying out the stabbing. He remained in police custody on Sunday, while the other five suspects were reported to prosecutors.
Police say the exact cause of the confrontation is still unclear. Early investigations suggest the three victims were approached by a group of youths they did not know. What began as a brief exchange quickly turned tense, escalating into a heated argument and then a physical fight.
During the clash, the main suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 17 year old. The group then fled the scene, leaving the victims injured on the street.
Emergency services treated the three men before taking them to hospital. A police dog later located the suspected knife hidden beneath a parked car nearby.
The case is now being handled by Vienna’s criminal investigation unit.
The incident has once again drawn attention to a worrying rise in violent incidents involving young people in Vienna. In recent months, police have reported a noticeable increase in street fights, assaults, and group clashes among teenagers and young adults. While officials stress that Vienna remains a relatively safe city, such cases are raising public concern and putting pressure on authorities to respond more firmly.
For many residents, the latest attack is not just an isolated event, but part of a broader pattern that is becoming harder to ignore.
