UN World Food Program Condemns Israeli Attack on Gaza Aid Convoy

GAZA — The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has strongly condemned an attack by Israeli forces on one of its aid convoys in Gaza on January 5. In a statement released Monday, the WFP described the incident as “horrifying” and a grave breach of humanitarian norms.

The convoy, consisting of three vehicles carrying eight staff members, came under fire near the Wadi Gaza checkpoint. Sixteen bullets struck the vehicles, though no injuries were reported. The WFP emphasized that the convoy was clearly marked as a UN humanitarian mission and had received prior security clearance from Israeli authorities.

“This attack is unacceptable and jeopardizes the safety of humanitarian workers and the vital aid they provide to civilians in desperate need,” the WFP statement read.

The incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by aid organizations operating in conflict zones, where civilians remain in urgent need of food, medicine, and other essentials. The WFP reiterated its commitment to supporting Gaza’s population, which continues to face a dire humanitarian crisis.

Israeli authorities have not commented on the incident. The attack has sparked calls from international organizations for accountability and greater protection for humanitarian missions.

This incident underscores the challenges of delivering aid in one of the world’s most volatile regions, where ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers is increasingly difficult amid escalating tensions and violence.
