U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out at the United Kingdom and other American allies on Tuesday, telling them to “go get your own oil” from the Strait of Hormuz as tensions in the Middle East spiral into their fifth week of war, according to BBC News.
“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The USA won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us.” His statement came as fighting continues to spread across the region and shipping routes through the narrow, vital waterway have increasingly come under attack.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the next few days as “decisive” and claimed that more commercial and military vessels are now transiting the Strait safely. However, BBC Verify said it is still reviewing that claim for accuracy.
Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti oil tanker carrying millions of barrels of crude was struck near Dubai on Tuesday, in what officials blamed on an Iranian missile. Fire crews managed to bring the blaze under control, and all 24 crew members are reported safe. Analysts fear the incident could further threaten global energy supplies, given that roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
Across the wider region, new missile strikes and interceptions were reported in Israel, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. In Dubai, several people were injured by falling debris after one interception caused an explosion overhead.
The war, now entering its second month, has already claimed thousands of lives, most of them in Iran and Lebanon. Yet with rising tempers, fiery rhetoric, and oil supply routes burning, there is little sign that the conflict or its global repercussions will subside anytime soon.
