SAVUDRIJA, CROATIA — A tranquil evening on a scenic public beach beneath the Kempinski Hotel in Savudrija erupted into violence as Slovenian tourists were brutally attacked by hotel security guards, leaving injuries and bloodshed in their wake, reported by 24 UR.com.
The incident, which took place late Sunday night, left visible traces of blood on the sand, though the victims’ injuries were far more severe: swollen toes, bruised elbows, a pierced lip, and a several-centimeter wound on one tourist’s forehead. Among those assaulted was a young girl, who was reportedly kicked to the ground during the confrontation.
The Slovenian group, who had been enjoying the beach around 10 p.m. to avoid disturbing neighbors, were first approached by a hotel security guard demanding they leave. Confused and noting that the beach is public, the tourists attempted to comply peacefully. The situation quickly escalated when the initial guard returned with a colleague, aggressively shouting and insulting the visitors.
“Then a third security guard arrived… one of them pulled my shirt, so I started recording,” one victim recounted. A brutal physical altercation followed, sparing no one, as the tourists tried to retreat to a nearby house while calling for help. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, witnessed part of the violence before the guards finally departed.
The hotel’s director, Ninoslav Vidovič, distanced the Kempinski from the incident, stating that the security personnel are employed by an external contractor. When asked about accountability, orders, or potential changes to the security team, Vidovič declined to comment. Local police reportedly did not respond to inquiries regarding the attack.
The Slovenian victims sought medical attention upon returning home and have vowed to pursue legal action against both the security guards and the hotel. The attack has raised broader concerns about the safety of tourists and the conduct of privately contracted security personnel at luxury resorts.
What should have been a serene evening with a view of Piran has instead become a cautionary tale of unchecked aggression, leaving a scar on a once-idyllic stretch of coastline.
