Hundreds of people were arrested and dozens of police officers were injured across France after celebrations of Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) Champions League victory turned violent, according to BBC News.

Authorities said at least 219 people were injured in clashes between fans and police, with eight in serious condition. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed that 780 people had been arrested nationwide, and more than 450 remain in custody. Among those detained in Paris were 82 minors.

The unrest spread across the capital, where large crowds gathered after PSG defeated Arsenal in a tense penalty shootout. The famous Champs-Élysées was filled with fans, but the celebrations quickly turned chaotic. Videos showed flares lighting up the night sky, electric bikes set on fire, and shop windows smashed. Police responded by firing tear gas to disperse crowds.

Public transport services, including buses and trains, were disrupted as violence unfolded in several parts of the city. In total, 57 police officers were injured during the clashes.

Tragically, a 24-year-old man died in an حادث on the Paris ring road near Porte Maillot, where rioters had attempted to block traffic. The exact circumstances remain unclear, though witnesses said he crashed his motorcycle into concrete barriers. In a separate incident, a teenager was left in critical condition after a violent brawl, though it is not confirmed whether it was linked to the football celebrations.

Nuñez stressed that while most people celebrated peacefully, some individuals used the occasion to cause trouble. “We allow freedom of assembly, but not excesses,” he said, promising a firm response from security forces.
