Rawalpindi, Pakistan – In a firm and defiant stance, Pakistan’s jailed opposition leader and former prime minister, Imran Khan, has ruled out any “give-and-take” political settlement, declaring that any dialogue with the government must serve the national interest—not personal relief, reported by The Express Tribune.
Speaking through his legal team and family members after a recent meeting at Adiala Jail, Khan reiterated his commitment to justice and national unity. “If I wanted personal relief, I would have asked for it long ago,” Senator Ali Zafar quoted Khan as saying. “The only thing I seek is swift and fair justice—not compromise.”
Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 on a series of charges including corruption and terrorism, which his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), calls politically motivated. His sister, Aleema Khan, earlier advocated for talks through a “give-and-take formula,” but Khan swiftly dismissed any such arrangement, doubling down on his demand for constitutional rights and transparency.
In recent days, Khan has also directed PTI to prepare for a nationwide mass movement, signaling a major shift in strategy. “We won’t march to Islamabad, but the campaign will echo across the country,” Aleema said, quoting her brother’s instructions.
PTI’s central information secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, clarified that no backdoor negotiations are underway, dismissing reports of secret talks. “You can’t stab someone politically and expect a handshake,” he remarked, accusing the government of engaging in duplicity while suppressing democratic dissent.
As PTI braces for renewed mobilization, Imran Khan’s message is unambiguous: he will not trade principle for freedom. His words echo through the prison walls as a rallying cry for justice, reform, and the soul of Pakistan’s democracy.
