In Pakistan, the legal team of former Prime Minister Imran Khan has moved the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi, seeking urgent permission for a comprehensive medical examination of Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, according to Pakistan’s media news. The petition was filed amid growing concerns over their health, following months of solitary confinement in Adiala Jail.
After receiving the application, the court issued notices to the prosecution and scheduled the hearing for tomorrow.
In the plea, the defense requested that Khan’s personal physicians, Dr. Asim Yousaf, Dr. Khurram Mirza, and Dr. Samina Niazi, be allowed to examine both detainees. The lawyers argued that these doctors are deeply familiar with Khan’s medical history and are therefore best suited to assess his current condition accurately.
The petition highlighted serious concerns raised by Khan’s family regarding his deteriorating health. According to the defense, the former prime minister has been suffering from multiple and severe health issues, which have worsened during his prolonged detention. His wife, Bushra Bibi, is also reported to be facing health complications, aggravated by months of isolation and limited access to medical care.
PTI leaders have repeatedly stated that both Khan and his wife have been kept in solitary confinement for several months, a situation they say has significantly impacted their physical and mental well-being. They warned that delays in proper medical evaluation could pose serious risks.
Government sources, however, have acknowledged that Imran Khan has experienced health problems during his imprisonment and confirmed that he has received medical attention when required. Officials insist that all necessary treatment has been provided according to prison rules, though the opposition maintains that independent examinations by personal doctors are essential for transparency.
The case has once again drawn national and international attention to the conditions of detention faced by Pakistan’s former premier and his wife, as legal battles and political tensions continue to shape the country’s fragile political landscape.
