Kashmir Tensions Escalate as Security Officials Accuse JAAC of Risky Protest Strategy

MUZAFFARABAD — Tensions continue to rise across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) as security officials have accused the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) of adopting increasingly confrontational tactics during its ongoing protest movement and strike campaign.

According to security officials, intelligence assessments and intercepted communications indicate that women and children are being positioned at the front of protest gatherings, while armed individuals remain behind them. Officials allege that the strategy is intended to complicate law-enforcement responses and create situations that could trigger public outrage in the event of a confrontation.

The officials claimed that such tactics could be used to strengthen narratives portraying state institutions as oppressive while generating sympathy for the protest movement. They described the approach as a deliberate attempt to create political pressure after previous efforts to influence government policies failed to achieve their desired results.

The allegations come amid heightened tensions following recent protests and clashes in several parts of AJK. Security officials pointed to the unrest in Rawalakot as evidence that the movement had crossed what they described as dangerous red lines, resulting in disorder and the loss of innocent lives.

Meanwhile, protesters and local activists have accused security forces of carrying out a heavy-handed response to demonstrations in Rawalakot, Kotli, Dadyal and Muzaffarabad. They allege that police actions, arrests and the use of force against demonstrators have deepened public anger and further intensified the political crisis. These claims have become a central point of debate as both sides continue to blame each other for the worsening situation.

Security officials maintain that peaceful protest remains a democratic right and that citizens are free to express their concerns through lawful means. However, they argue that any attempt to provoke confrontation or place vulnerable individuals in potentially dangerous situations raises serious questions about the objectives of protest organizers.

As the JAAC strike movement continues, the dispute has evolved beyond economic and political demands into a broader confrontation over public safety, civil rights and governance. With tensions remaining high across Kashmir, many observers are calling for restraint, dialogue and peaceful engagement to prevent further unrest and protect civilian lives.
