Kashmir: J&K CM Presents Indian Rs.1.12 Lakh-Crore Budget, Focuses on Inclusive Growth

Jammu, Mar 7: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presented a ₹1.12 lakh-crore zero-deficit budget for 2025-26 in the legislative assembly, emphasizing economic growth, social progress, and sustainable development.

In his maiden budget as Finance Minister, Abdullah highlighted the government’s focus on infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and digital governance. The budget projects a 9.5% GDP growth, estimating J&K’s GDP at ₹2,88,422 crore. The tax-GDP ratio is set at 7.5%, with the fiscal deficit reduced to 3.0% from 5.5% in the previous year.

The government expects ₹97,982 crore in revenue receipts and ₹14,328 crore in capital receipts. J&K’s own revenue is estimated at ₹31,905 crore, while central assistance and special schemes contribute ₹54,522 crore.

Abdullah stressed bridging regional disparities, empowering youth and women, and creating a business-friendly environment. He also noted J&K’s economic expansion from ₹1,64,103 crore in 2019-20 to ₹2,45,022 crore in 2023-24.

He expressed optimism that J&K is entering a new era of peace and prosperity, with stability aiding economic progress. The budget, shaped through consultations with stakeholders, aims to make J&K a leading region in India’s development journey.
