Kashmir: Dr. Farooq Abdullah Emphasizes Article 370’s Role in Safeguarding Regional Rights and Addresses Rising Drug Abuse

On January 28, National Conference (NC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah highlighted the importance of Article 370 in protecting the rights and identity of the people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. Speaking to reporters after offering prayers at the Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar, Dr. Abdullah emphasized that Article 370 was established to safeguard local employment and preserve the unique rights of these regions amidst concerns over external influences.

Dr. Abdullah also expressed deep concern over the escalating issue of drug addiction in the area, describing it as a significant threat to society. He remarked, “Drugs have destroyed our nation,” urging the community to take collective responsibility in combating this menace. He emphasized the need for introspection, stating that Kashmiris should address the problem themselves rather than solely blaming external factors.

While acknowledging the efforts of local law enforcement in curbing drug trafficking, Dr. Abdullah stressed the necessity for a unified community approach. He stated, “Until we, as Kashmiris, stand up against this menace, we will not overcome it,” encouraging decisive action to tackle drug addiction and secure a better future for the youth.

In recent statements, Dr. Abdullah has reiterated his commitment to the restoration of Article 370, asserting that it reflects the will of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He acknowledged that this endeavor might take time but remained steadfast in his belief that the special provision would eventually be reinstated.

Additionally, Dr. Abdullah has highlighted the emerging threats of smartphone misuse and drug addiction among the youth, calling for comprehensive strategies to address these challenges. He emphasized the importance of community involvement and proactive measures to safeguard the younger generation from these growing dangers.
