Iran has claimed that several United States naval vessels operating in the Oman Sea withdrew toward the Indian Ocean after receiving warnings from Iranian military forces, according to a statement issued by the Iranian Navy on Friday.
The statement said the move came during what Tehran described as ongoing operations aimed at countering maritime aggression, harassment, and the seizure of commercial ships and oil tankers, according to Mehr News Agency. Iranian naval forces reportedly issued warnings using Qadir missiles and newly developed offensive drones known as “Martyr Dana.”
According to the Iranian Navy, the operation prompted two US destroyers, identified as DDG-103 and DDG-87, to leave the Oman Sea and move toward the Indian Ocean. Iranian officials presented the development as evidence of the effectiveness of the country’s naval deterrence capabilities in regional waters.
The Navy further claimed that other American vessels operating in the area, including warships linked to the George W. Bush Carrier Strike Group, also increased their distance from Iranian waters following the warnings. Tehran alleged that these forces had been involved in activities that threatened regional trade routes and maritime security.
Iranian officials also stated that the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli was among the vessels that departed the area. The claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate response from US authorities regarding the Iranian statement.
In its message, the Iranian Navy’s Operations Command and Control Center urged what it called the “American-Zionist enemy” to halt hostile actions and alleged maritime interference in the region.
The statement concluded with a warning that Iran possesses missiles with even greater range and would be prepared to use them if necessary. The remarks underscore continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington in the strategically important waters surrounding the Persian Gulf, the Oman Sea, and the Indian Ocean, where military activity by regional and international powers remains closely watched.__Photo courtesy MNA
