European officials are facing criticism after drawing a comparison between Israeli citizens and Hamas fighters, a move Israeli leaders have strongly rejected as deeply unfair, according to AFP. One official described the comparison as “outrageous,” arguing that it creates a false moral balance between civilians and militants.
“This is a completely distorted moral equivalence,” the official said, stressing that such statements risk blurring the line between victims and those responsible for violence.
Hamas has not issued any immediate response to the remarks.
Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise across the occupied West Bank, where violence has become a near-daily reality since the Gaza war began in October 2023. Clashes involving Israeli troops, Palestinian residents, and Israeli settlers have intensified, leaving communities on edge and adding to an already fragile situation.
According to Palestinian officials and the United Nations, there has been a noticeable increase in deadly attacks carried out by Israeli settlers in recent months. This surge in violence has been particularly evident since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28, which has further heightened regional instability.
Residents in the West Bank report growing fear and uncertainty, as attacks and military operations continue with little sign of easing. Human rights groups have also raised concerns about the rising number of casualties and the impact on civilians caught in the conflict.
The developments highlight the widening scope of tensions in the region, where overlapping conflicts are fueling unrest beyond Gaza. As international attention shifts between crises, the situation in the West Bank remains volatile, with many warning that continued violence could lead to further escalation.
