The investigation soon led police to a 25 year old Syrian national with no permanent home in Austria. He was named the prime suspect in the killing. With a formal arrest warrant and a European Arrest Warrant in hand, officers closed in and captured him yesterday at around 4:45 p.m. in the Ratschkygasse area of the 12th district, a peaceful neighborhood suddenly caught in the drama of a police operation.
Authorities praised the smooth cooperation between different police units for the case’s quick resolution. During questioning, the suspect admitted only to being involved in the confrontation, but stopped short of confessing to the killing itself.
