Bomb Scare Shakes Multiple Vienna Institutions, Children Evacuated Safely

Austria

According to Media reports and Police sources: A wave of bomb threats sent shockwaves through Vienna on Friday, unsettling schools and public institutions and prompting swift police action across the city.

The unsettling day began at Volksschule St. Marien in Liniengasse, located in Vienna’s 6th district, where early in the morning, the school administration alerted parents of a bomb threat. Though a brief message of reassurance followed, parents were soon informed that their children must be picked up by 5 p.m., as the school was to remain closed for the day.

Children were safely moved and cared for in a nearby park while special police units swept through the premises. Thankfully, nothing hazardous was discovered.

But the school was not alone. The ripple of fear extended to other institutions, including the Vienna Education Directorate on Wipplinger Straße, the Austrian Data Protection Authority in Barichgasse, and the Assisted Living Facility in Liesing operated by the Sisters of Mercy.

All locations were thoroughly searched by explosive ordnance experts and specially trained sniffer dogs, yet no explosives were found. The police have now launched a full investigation to trace the origin of the threats.

Despite the chaos, calm prevailed, and no injuries or damages were reported. The city’s response was swift and resolute, ensuring the safety of all.

As Vienna breathes a sigh of relief, questions remain about who was behind the coordinated threats and why. Authorities are urging the public to stay alert as the investigation continues.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of peace in public spaces—and the strength of a community that comes together in the face of fear.
