Austria: Several AUA flights cancelled – passengers are helpless

Austria

OE24 reports: Angry passengers crowd the AUA counter: “My flight has been cancelled and there is no information. Can you tell me what happens next?” asks a young man in a T-shirt. “They’re sending us back and forth,” shouts a lady. They still don’t get any answers as to what happens next.

Several flights cancelled – hours of waiting

Friday was a tough day for AUA passengers. Several flights were cancelled today – already in the morning, before the heavy storms of the evening.

oe24 culture director Thomas Zeidler has been waiting for 12 hours – his flight to Gdansk for pop star Ed Sheeran’s concert was postponed again and again, and he was repeatedly offered new flight routes – via Munich, via Berlin – none of which materialised.

Service centre closed

There was insufficient information for passengers and the AUA Service Centre was closed.

In the end, after more than 12 hours, a number of waiting passengers – including Zeidler – received a message that their flight had been cancelled. They would be rebooked on the next available connection. When would that take off? There was no answer.

Airport security intervenes

In the heated atmosphere, the airport security staff had to ask some passengers to calm down. However, they were unable to provide any answers about the other flights.
