At least 90 people have been killed and 300 wounded in an Israeli air attack on the al-Mawasi refugee camp, an Israeli-designated “safe zone”, the Health Ministry in Gaza says.
The Israeli army claims the target of the attack was senior Hamas military commander, Mohammed Deif; Hamas immediately rejects the claim as “false”, says “defenceless civilians” were killed in the attack.
Witnesses say rescue workers and health teams were targeted by Israeli forces as they arrived on the scene.
At least 38,443 people have been killed and 88,481 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is estimated at 1,139, and dozens of people are still held captive in Gaza.__Al Jazeera
