According to online Austrian Media reports: A protest action of the last generation took place at Vienna Airport on Saturday. The police were able to quickly get the situation under control.
On Saturday, members of the Last Generation caused chaos at Vienna Airport. According to the group, more than 20 activists distributed confetti in the departure hall and displayed several banners. In addition, access to the check-in terminals was also blocked.
The police was quickly on the scene and was able to prevent a large-scale protest. Fortunately, there were no protests on the tarmac, with which the climate activists recently caused a stir at airports in Germany. So there were no restrictions on air traffic.
With their protest, the group once again tried to draw attention to the effects of climate change.
“Oil kills! We want the absolute minimum from our governments: Conclude a binding treaty to phase out coal, oil and gas by 2030,” demanded spokesperson Afra Porsche in a press release.
“The airline industry costs lives.
The flights that took off from Vienna in the first three months of the year caused around 400 heat-related deaths,” claims activist Iris Kolarik.
Another activist addresses direct words to all air travelers in the press release: “Do the people who – shortly before the global CO2 budget will be exhausted in 2030 – afford a vacation flight and do not care about the future of our children?”
