US Warns of Military Action as Tensions Rise in Strait of Hormuz

The United States has warned it may carry out military strikes against ships involved in laying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions with Iran continue to grow in one of the world’s most critical waterways, according to NDTV news report.

The warning came from US Central Command (CENTCOM), which issued an advisory through the Joint Maritime Information Center. The notice cautioned that any attempt to place mines in the strategic channel could be met with immediate action in self-defence.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for global oil shipments, and any disruption there can have serious consequences for international trade and energy supplies.

Amid the rising tensions, former US President Donald Trump demanded that Iran commit to never developing nuclear weapons. In a post on Truth Social, he also called for the immediate removal of all naval mines from the waterway and insisted that the strait remain fully open to shipping without restrictions.

“The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions,” he said.

Trump claimed that US naval forces had already destroyed several underwater mines and suggested that Iran would remove any remaining ones. He also announced that what he described as a large-scale naval blockade would be lifted, allowing ships stuck in the area to begin returning home.

Meanwhile, Iran responded with caution. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said talks between Tehran and Washington were still ongoing but had not yet reached a final agreement. He criticized the US blockade as illegal and questioned whether the announced lifting of restrictions would actually take place.

Baqaei also warned that Iran, along with Oman, may need to develop new measures to ensure safe passage through the strait, highlighting growing concerns over the security of this key global route.

As uncertainty continues, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, with the risk of further escalation still present.
