A report on the mysterious disappearance of two brothers of a senior journalist has been sought from the defence secretary by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), reported The online web the news.com.pk.
The court issued this directive while hearing a plea from the distressed mother of the missing men. The two individuals are the brothers of Ahmad Noorani, a journalist currently residing in the United States.
During the proceedings, Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, assured the court that he was personally supervising the investigation. However, despite extensive efforts, including geo-fencing and Call Detail Records (CDRs) analysis, no significant leads had surfaced.
“A special team led by the Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) is working on the case. The missing brothers are not in the custody of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) or any of the 27 police stations in our jurisdiction,” IG Rizvi explained.
The police have sought information from intelligence agencies, prison departments, and hospitals across the country. However, no trace of the brothers has been found, nor have any records indicated that they left the country. Even the emergency helpline had received no reports regarding them.
Advocate Imaan Mazari, representing the petitioner, questioned the thoroughness of the investigation. She voiced concerns about the alleged involvement of intelligence agencies and demanded that safe houses be checked. “A journalist was taken and later presented by the FIA—how can we be sure these men aren’t in similar custody?” she asked.
Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas emphasized that a response from the Ministry of Defence was crucial. The petitioner’s mother, overcome with emotion, pleaded with the court, “If something happens to my sons, who will be responsible?”
Acknowledging the gravity of the case, the court adjourned the hearing until after Eidul Fitr, awaiting the defence secretary’s response.
