Standing before global leaders, Sharif named Trump “a man of peace,” credited him with averting a war between Pakistan and India, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s bid to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. He described the U.S. leader as having “relentlessly worked” to achieve regional stability.
Trump, visibly amused, quipped “beautiful” and jested there was nothing more to say.
Yet what the world saw as diplomatic praise was met with disdain within Pakistan. Social media erupted, branding Sharif’s words an insult to millions. One critic branded him a “puppet” who had “sold Pakistan” for international favor. Another called his sycophancy an embarrassment for the nation.
The exchange even caught the eye of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whose visible discomfort captured on camera; became a viral moment.
The summit itself marked a diplomatic spectacle. Over 20 nations signed Trump’s “Trump Declaration for Enduring Peace and Prosperity,” formalizing a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, though critics say the accords remain vague at best.
Sharif, meanwhile, defended his posture, stating on X that Pakistan would continue honoring Trump’s “unique contributions to peace.”
