Knife Attack at Vienna’s Reumannplatz Leaves Three Injured, Suspects at Large

Austria

A routine Monday evening turned violent at Vienna’s Reumannplatz as a robbery spiraled into a knife attack, leaving three people injured and an urgent manhunt underway, reported by “Kurier”.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., police responded to reports of a stabbing near the busy square. According to preliminary investigations, two suspects assaulted a man, robbed him of his wallet, and stabbed him during the confrontation.

The violence didn’t end there. Two bystanders who courageously stepped in to defuse the situation were also attacked by the suspects, who turned their knives on them. All three victims— the robbery target and the intervening passersby—sustained injuries, primarily in the thigh and chest regions.

Corina Had, spokesperson for Vienna’s professional emergency services, confirmed to KURIER that all three were treated on-site and then transported to local hospitals. While the injuries were serious, authorities stated that none of the victims are in life-threatening condition.

As of Tuesday morning, the victims have not yet been questioned due to their medical conditions. However, police have already gathered initial leads. The attackers are believed to be known in the area and may frequent Reumannplatz, raising concerns about repeat incidents in this popular public space.

The Vienna State Criminal Police Office has launched a full investigation, citing “aggravated robbery” and “multiple counts of intentional serious bodily harm.” Officers have increased their presence in the neighborhood as the search for the suspects intensifies.

The attack has shocked residents and raised broader questions about safety in public transit hubs. Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.

While the city breathes a cautious sigh of relief that the victims are stable, the community remains on edge, hoping for a swift arrest and justice for the wounded.
