Iran said on Monday that it has received proposals from international mediators aimed at easing rising tensions with the United States, as both sides continue to exchange fire. While reviewing the proposals, Tehran stressed that it remains committed to diplomacy despite the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that mediators have been actively working to prevent further escalation and have passed along new ideas to Iranian officials. However, he declined to share details, saying the proposals are still under review, according to Anadolu.
Baqaei emphasized that Iran is pursuing a dual approach, maintaining both military readiness and diplomatic engagement. He said the country’s armed forces are responding “firmly and decisively” to what he described as American aggression, while diplomats continue their efforts to manage the crisis through dialogue.
“Iran’s diplomatic corps will not abandon its responsibilities,” Baqaei said, adding that the military also remains committed to defending the country’s sovereignty. His remarks underline Tehran’s position that diplomacy and defense are moving forward side by side.
He also highlighted Iran’s cooperation with Oman, a key regional mediator, to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz — a vital global shipping route. According to Baqaei, Iran is determined to take necessary steps to protect its sovereignty and prevent any threats in the strategic waterway.
The latest developments come despite a memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan last month, which aimed to end hostilities and pave the way for a lasting peace agreement between Iran and the United States. However, tensions have flared again in recent days, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about a broader regional escalation.
