Israeli forces carried out fresh attacks in several southern Lebanese towns on Monday, shelling residential areas, demolishing homes and setting farmland on fire despite a truce, according to Lebanese state media, as reported by the Tasnim News Agency.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency said artillery fire struck Mansouri in the South Governorate. Israeli forces also used bulldozers in Houla, in the Nabatieh Governorate.
In the border town of Khiam, Israeli forces reportedly blew up homes in the western neighbourhood near the Al-Mabarrat schools. Residents heard a series of explosions as thick smoke rose over the area. Fires also spread through agricultural fields and nearby properties, the agency said.
The attacks took place as Israeli military vehicles continued moving through the region, increasing fear and uncertainty among local residents.
The latest incidents came despite a US-backed framework agreement signed by Beirut and Tel Aviv on June 26. The agreement calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in return for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups, including Hezbollah.
Lebanese authorities say Israel’s military campaign since March 2 has killed 4,348 people, injured 12,307 and displaced more than one million. Israel continues to hold positions in southern Lebanon, some of which have been occupied for decades, while other areas were seized during the wars of 2023 and 2024. During the latest offensive, Israeli forces advanced more than 10 kilometres into Lebanese territory.
The continuing attacks have deepened concern that the truce remains fragile. For families living near the border, the sound of artillery and explosions has replaced any sense of lasting safety. Homes, fields and livelihoods remain exposed, while smoke over the villages serves as a stark reminder that the conflict is far from over.
Israel also maintains control over parts of the occupied Palestinian and Syrian territories. It has rejected calls for withdrawal and continues to oppose the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, despite relevant United Nations resolutions.
