Kashmir: Schoolgirls protest against miscreants who torched school in G-B

Thousands of schoolgirls on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against unidentified miscreants who set their school on fire in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Girls Middle School located in Darail area of Diamir district was torched in the wee hours of Tuesday.

No loss of life was reported in in the incident.

The G-B chief minister and chief secretary in separate statements confirmed the incident and directed police and other officials to ensure the arrests of culprits involved in the heinous act.

The protesting schoolgirls demanded of the government to arrest the culprits and mete out severe punishment to the “terrorists”.

Reacting to the incident, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Secretary Muhiudeen Wani said that, “We will not let them down and will hunt the miscreants and bring them to justice”.

He pledged that the authorities will restore and rebuild the school in next few days, saying this school will be the best school as far as infrastructure is concerned, and added that this school will also have additional facilities of IT lab, sports and library.

“Now the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner, DIG and SSP diamer and Chillas will be responsible for the protection of educational institutions of girls,” the official added.

He said that there is no room for intolerant behaviour towards girls’ education.__Tribune.com
