Gaza’s Children Face Starvation as Israeli Aid Blockade Continues Despite Global Pleas
Gaza is on the edge of a humanitarian catastrophe as Israel’s ongoing blockade continues to block vital humanitarian aid, leaving hundreds of thousands of children in grave danger. According to Palestinian health officials, more than 3,500 children under the age of five face imminent death by starvation, while nearly 290,000 others are at serious risk due to the shortage of food, baby formula, and nutritional supplements, reported by Al Jazeera News.
Despite repeated calls from the United Nations and global human rights organizations to allow aid into Gaza, Israel has kept tight control over the borders, preventing even the most basic supplies from reaching those in need. The blockade, which has now lasted for more than two months, has crippled food supply chains and caused widespread hunger among Gaza’s most vulnerable population—its children.
Mahmoud Alsaqqa, Oxfam’s food security lead in Gaza, told Al Jazeera, “The whole world, unfortunately, is contributing to or participating in starving the children in Gaza” by failing to act decisively against the siege.
The situation is worsened by continuous airstrikes and ground attacks across the region. In just the past 24 hours, at least 40 Palestinians have been killed and 125 injured, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Since the start of Israel’s military campaign in October 2023, over 52,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 118,000 wounded. Gaza’s Government Media Office estimates the real death toll to be over 61,700, counting thousands still missing beneath the rubble.
Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise across the region. A missile fired from Yemen reportedly landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, sending up a plume of smoke visible from nearby terminals.
The current crisis follows the October 7 Hamas-led attacks on Israel, which left 1,139 Israelis dead and over 200 taken hostage. However, humanitarian agencies stress that the suffering of civilians—especially children—must not be ignored.
As Gaza’s children face hunger and disease, the world watches in silence. The time for words has passed. Global action is needed now to prevent what could become one of the most tragic human-made famines in recent history.
