UN Rapporteur Calls for Global Medical Boycott of Israel Amid Escalating Gaza Conflict

World

The UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese, has called on medical professionals worldwide to sever ties with Israel in protest against what she described as the “full destruction” of Gaza’s healthcare system. Speaking on X, Albanese urged global action, framing the destruction as a “critical tool” in what she termed an ongoing genocide against Palestinians.

The plea comes amidst severe devastation in Gaza following Israel’s military response to the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. The conflict, now surpassing 14 months, has left Gaza’s medical infrastructure in ruins, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis.

Israel’s military operations have targeted high-ranking Hamas leaders, with Ismail Haniyeh killed in Tehran and Yahya Sinwar eliminated in southern Gaza. Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah and his potential successor were also assassinated, reflecting Israel’s broader regional strategy.

Meanwhile, Israel is reportedly carving out “buffer zones” in Gaza, with no signs of slowing its campaign until the anticipated inauguration of Donald Trump in January. In Lebanon, a ceasefire reached two months after the invasion was swiftly violated, further complicating regional stability.

In a significant development, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, as well as Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, intensifying the international spotlight on the conflict.

The ongoing escalation highlights the urgent need for global intervention as Gaza’s humanitarian and medical infrastructure teeters on the brink of collapse.
