A terrifying knife attack at Hamburg’s central train station left 12 people injured Friday evening, turning a busy travel hub into a scene of chaos and fear, as reported by Euro News.
The incident unfolded just after 6 p.m. on a platform between tracks 13 and 14, where travelers waited calmly for their trains. Suddenly, panic erupted as a woman launched a stabbing spree, targeting people near a waiting high-speed ICE train. Witnesses described screams, confusion, and blood-stained tiles.
Hamburg’s fire service reported that six victims suffered life-threatening injuries, three were seriously hurt, and three sustained minor wounds. The attacker, a 39-year-old woman, was quickly arrested. Authorities believe she acted alone, though her motive remains unknown.
The station, a bustling heart of Germany’s second-largest city, fell silent as police cordoned off parts of the platform and shut down four tracks. Train services were delayed and rerouted, leaving many stranded and shaken.
Carrying weapons, including knives, is banned at Hamburg stations and on public transport. Despite this, tragedy struck at the very core of a place meant for connection and movement.
Deutsche Bahn, the national railway company, said it was “deeply shocked” and is working with authorities during the investigation.
As the city recovers from this sudden storm of violence, questions remain about what drove the attacker and how such horror found its way into a place of everyday life.
The platform, once filled with routine and rhythm, now echoes with the memory of fear.
