Kashmir: PM orders stern action against miscreants

GILGIT: Caretaker (Pakistan’s) Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar directed the authorities concerned on Tuesday to identify elements spreading chaos in the name of religion in Gilgit, and take strict action against them.

Chairing a meeting to discuss development projects and the law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), the prime minister emphasised that security of every citizen was the state’s responsibility.

In the meeting, the prime minister was briefed about the progress on projects in information technology (IT), health, education and other sectors, as well as the related issues.

He was informed that steps had been taken to identify and address problems confronting the education sector in all the G-B districts, particularly Diamer and Astore.

The measures taken for the promotion of education sector included provision of food to students, reconstruction of buildings and rehabilitation of dilapidated structures, professional training of teachers, and establishment of smart schools.

The prime minister was also apprised of the projects in G-B’s health sector, including the establishment of a 24-hour helpline to address the issue of mental health.

Besides the performance of the environment and tourism sectors, the prime minister was also briefed about the agriculture sector –wheat sowing and crop subsidy – production and potential of hydel power as well as the budget.

Prime Minister Kakar directed the G-B administration to assess the scope of the ongoing development projects and give a special focus on those of a crucial nature.

Kakar, accompanied by Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Information Minister Murtaza Solangi, arrived in G-B on a two-day visit. Upon arrival, he visited the monument of martyrs at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and laid a floral wreath.

On the occasion, a contingent of GB Scouts presented guard of honour to the prime minister. The caretaker prime minister was briefed by the G-B Chief Secretary Mohyuddin Wani on various matters.

Later, G-B Chief Minister Gulbar Khan called on Prime Minister Kakar and apprised him of the progress on the ongoing uplift projects, particularly in education and health sectors.

The prime minister was given a briefing on the development of tourism sector. The chief minister also presented the local traditional tunic and a cap to the caretaker prime minister.

Governor Shah also called on the prime minister and apprised him of the administrative affairs and the law and order situation. He thanked Kakar for visiting G-B and showing special interest in the development of the region.

During the visit, the prime minister visited a science exhibition. He evinced keen interest in the innovative models made by the local students. He interacted with the students and lauded the abilities.

On the occasion, the prime minister stated that Pakistan had a bright future ahead due to its talented youth. He appreciated the knowledge of young girls and boys on environmental issues.__Tribune.com
