According to the report of Austrian National Television (ORF): The Portugal Federal Government abolishes the VAT on basic food items.

No tax on food: Portugal takes new steps in the fight against inflation.

The left-wing government there is abolishing food taxes on 44 basic foodstuffs.

These include bread, milk, meat, pasta and fish. The aim is to make life more affordable for people again. The measure will initially apply for six months.
