TEHRAN — A senior Iranian military official has flatly rejected President Donald Trump’s claim that the United States is holding secret backchannel talks with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), dismissing the assertion as wartime delusion.
Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi, spokesperson for the IRGC, told Tasnim News on Monday that no dialogue whatsoever is taking place between IRGC officials and American representatives, according to Tasnim News Agency.
“There is no dialogue taking place between IRGC officials and the Americans,” Mohebbi said, describing Trump’s claim as “merely fantasies caused by the delusions and nightmares resulting from defeat and desperation in the war” against Iran.
The spokesman emphasized that the IRGC serves as “the arm and voice of the power of the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic,” making its positions clear on the battlefield rather than through secret negotiations.
Diplomatic matters fall under the jurisdiction of other branches of Iran’s government, he noted. Based on information available to the IRGC and statements from Foreign Ministry officials, there are currently no talks with the U.S. even through official diplomatic channels.
Mohebbi attributed the absence of diplomatic engagement to Washington’s broken promises and repeated violations of agreements. He further suggested that Trump’s statements are an attempt to temporarily manipulate global oil and energy prices.
“Trump’s mental fantasies will not help him on the field,” Mohebbi said, stressing that the only viable option for the U.S. president is to accept defeat and comply with Iran’s conditions.
“The sooner and faster the Americans accept their failure and make decisions accordingly, the more they can save their country from greater and heavier losses,” he stated.
The denial comes amid heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, largely closed for nearly six months during the U.S.-Iran conflict. The waterway handles about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.
Trump made his backchannel claim during a Fox News interview, hours after threatening to bomb Oman if the Gulf state interfered with U.S. negotiations with Tehran.
