As diplomatic ripples from Operation Sindoor continue to echo across borders, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has called on the Indian government to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the operation internally. Her remarks come amidst heightened regional tensions involving India, Pakistan, and the sensitive region of Kashmir.
Mehbooba welcomed the government’s move to dispatch parliamentary delegations to several countries to explain the intent and background of Operation Sindoor. Calling it a “timely and necessary diplomatic effort,” she emphasized that international engagement must be matched with transparent internal dialogue.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “Sending parliamentarians abroad to explain the rationale behind Operation Sindoor is a welcome and timely step. However, it would have been more appropriate and democratic if the government had also convened a special session of Parliament to discuss the matter internally.”
She stressed the importance of diplomacy over warfare, stating, “In today’s world, where war yields only destruction and is no longer a viable option—not even as a last resort—diplomacy remains our most effective tool.”
Operation Sindoor, while yet to be fully disclosed in official detail, is believed to involve strategic military or intelligence maneuvers with implications for cross-border relations. With tensions simmering between India and Pakistan, voices from Kashmir like Mehbooba’s underline the urgent need for peaceful discourse.
As the region watches closely, her call for internal debate and democratic transparency highlights a growing chorus for peace, dialogue, and responsible governance in the shadow of escalating regional uncertainties.
