Kashmir: 4 terrorists, 2 soldiers killed in twin Kulgam encounters

Srinagar, July 6: Four terrorists and two soldiers were killed in twin anti-terror operations in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The twin anti-terror operations have been underway in Mudergham and Frisal Chinnigam areas of Kulgam since Saturday afternoon.

The terrorists belong to the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit.

About both encounters, Chinar Corps – Indian Army said operations were launched on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in these areas.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi said, “Four terrorists have been killed in Frisal Chinnigam and bodies have been sighted. We did not retrieve bodies because of heavy gunfire from the other side that is being retaliated effectively.”

The Kashmir Police chief said that the culmination of operations would take time.

“Once the operations are over, then identification will be ascertained,” he said and termed the operations as significant.

The encounters broke out after the Army, Police, and CRPF cordoned off the areas after inputs of the presence of terrorists.

An hour and a half later, another encounter broke out in Frisal Chinnigam where so far four terrorists have been killed.

“Contact established at Frisal Chinnigam area in #Kulgam district. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow @JmuKmrPolice,” Kashmir Zone Police posted on X.

Reliable sources in the Police said that the four terrorists belonged to terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

Contact was established with terrorists and operation is in progress #Kashmir @adgpi,” Chinar Corps-Indian Army posted in the second post on X.

On May 8, two terrorists were killed during an encounter with security forces in Kulgam.

Basit Dar, who was an active operative of The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-backed terrorist organisation, was among the terrorists killed in the encounter.

Dar was on the “most wanted list” of security agencies and carried a bounty of Rs 10 lakh.

He was involved in more than 18 cases of killing of Police personnel and civilians, the IGP Kashmir had said.

Earlier on June 3, two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama.

The two killed terrorists were Riyaz Ahmad Dar and Rayees Ahmad – both from Pulwama’s Kakapora village.

Dar joined terror ranks in September 2015 and has escaped security cordons several times in the past. Ahmad joined the terror ranks in 2021.__GK News
