Srinagar: In conjunction with the G-20 Summit, the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K organized a series of exhilarating sports events, including a mega Road Race, in Srinagar and Anantnag districts.
The spotlight was on Srinagar as the Regional Transport Officer Kashmir (RTO), Shahnawaz Bukhari, flagged off a massive contingent of over 1100 energetic school boys representing different government and private educational institutions. The race commenced at Indoor Stadium Srinagar and concluded at Government High School Rawalpora, showcasing exceptional sportsmanship and boundless enthusiasm.
Under the banner of the G-20 Summit, the road race underscored the significance of sports in nurturing the physical and mental well-being of the youth. It served as a platform to highlight the dedication and talent of young athletes from across the summer capital, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among the participants.
Addressing the young athletes, RTO Bukhari emphasized the importance of road races in maintaining fitness and preventing lifestyle diseases. He stressed that physical activity is a vital component of a healthy and balanced lifestyle, adding, “Running is one of the simplest activities children can undertake to become fitter and more active – mentally, physically, and emotionally.”
The Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, Kashmir, Waseem Raja, expressed his satisfaction and joy at the overwhelming response from the youngsters. He stated, “We are thrilled to witness the passion and determination displayed by the young athletes today. The Annual Road Race not only promotes physical fitness but also encourages teamwork, discipline, and a spirit of healthy competition among the youth. We are proud to be a part of the G-20 Summit, providing a platform for our talented athletes to shine.”
The Annual Road Race concluded with a grand ceremony at Government High School Rawalpora, where the outstanding performers were honored and acknowledged for their exceptional performances. The success of the event further solidified the Department of Youth Services and Sports’ commitment to fostering sports excellence in Srinagar.
In addition to Srinagar, the G-20 Summit activities extended to South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, where the Department of Youth Services and Sports organized various events for different age groups. The events included co-curricular activities such as a One Day Trekking Camp, a running event, a Zonal Level Badminton & Rope Skipping tournament, and rescheduled Senior Citizen’s sports events. These events showcased the district’s commitment to promoting sports and engaging youth in healthy activities.
A special Guest of Honour, international Washu Player Tanzeel Ahmad Shah, was invited to the One Day Trekking Camp to interact with students and motivate them to participate in sports activities. The events in Anantnag witnessed the active participation of approximately 650 student players from various institutions, making the day a resounding success.
